DESCRIPTION

The Developmental Risk and Cultural Resilience Lab at Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH) and Harvard Medical School is conducting different studies with pregnant woman and new mothers. 

Study procedures include:

  • Clinical interviews
  • Questionnaires
  • Saliva sampling
  • Hair sampling,
  • Computer game activities
  • Heart rate measurements (ECG)
  • A Newborn neurobehavioral assessment
  • A mother-infant social activity and an infant temperament assessment at 16 weeks

All the activities are aimed at understanding the role of stress, psychiatric status and maternal
experiences on infant development. Study visits will take place both during pregnancy and
postpartum.


REQUIREMENTS

  • Are currently pregnant
  • Between the ages of 18-43
  • English-speaking
  • Have been diagnosed with any of the following:
    • Major Depression
    • Bipolar Disorder
    • Psychosis (such as schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder)

OR

  • Have never been diagnosed with any of the psychiatric disorders listed above
