PCOS is a very common disorder in young women. It is a leading cause of infertility, type 2 (adult) diabetes and obesity. PCOS runs in families. Sisters and daughters of women with PCOS are at increased risk to develop the syndrome. You may be eligible to participate in an important research study supported by the National Institutes of Health.
- Age 18-40
- Currently have 8 or fewer menstrual periods per year or have had infrequent menstrual periods in the past.
- Are not using birth control pills, injections, patches, rings or hormone-releasing intrauterine devices (IUDs), unless PCOS has been previously diagnosed by hormonal testing.
